I made my boyfriend a personalized t-shirt for christmas using an iron-on transfer. I intend to give him a pack of fabric pens to further customize the design, but after making the transfer I notice that it leaves a plasticy-sheen. Will fabric pens work on top of the transfer? And will they be permanent? OR should I use a normal permanent marker? I am confused and any help is greatly appreciated!

I often design T-shirts for different events, between 50-100 prints at a time, but i’m fed up with having to design in block colors, does ANYONE know anything about how to or where to find a printing company that will print T-shirts like you’d see in places like All-Saints (using gradients, printing over seams, giving worn / weathered effect). Or is this something that is done before the fabric is made into t-shirts?
Thanks for your help!
